Prairie Lights welcomes pianist and writer Jeremy Denk on Wednesday, Oct. 22, for a reading from his newest book, Every Good Boy Does Fine: A Love Story, in Music Lessons. Following his reading, Denk will be in conversation with Katie Buehner, Director of the University of Iowa’s Rita Benton Music Library. The event is free and open to the public.
Praised by The New York Review of Books as “wildly ambitious, far exceeding the author’s modest description of it as ‘the story of piano lessons,’” and described by composer John Adams as “a one-of-a-kind musical autobiography … as sophisticated as a Bach fugue and as American as Tater Tots and Kmart,” Every Good Boy Does Fine offers both a deeply personal coming-of-age story and an illuminating meditation on music itself.
Denk is one of America’s foremost pianists. Winner of a MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship and the Avery Fisher Prize, Denk is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
This event is part of Jeremy Denk’s multi-day residency at Hancher Auditorium and in the University of Iowa School of Music.
