A live performance that occurs through projections, AR and VR simultaneously, ARatorio for the Mis-Remembered features the story of veterans at the University of Iowa and their time before, during, and post-service, exploring both the serious and surreal moments of their lives in the military. Starring UI actors, singers, and designers, this show blends actors in a live motion capture and performing in the virtual worlds of these veteran's memories, and is a performance structure uniquely available at the University of Iowa and is not to be missed!
ARatorio is an ongoing research project funded by the UI Arts and Humanities Initiative that explores the practice of devising theatre in tandem with emerging technologies such as motion capture, and was presented at USITT 2025 in Columbus, OH and its creation process will be featured in the summer issue of USITT Theatre Design and Technology.
Please be advised the live version of the production takes place with projections surrounding the audience on all sides for immersion and may affect photosensitive viewers, and includes sounds of wartime weaponry and equipment. Additionally, ARatorio includes references to sexual violence and assault, gun violence, wartime injuries and blood, and mild traumatic situations.
This performance will also be available live streamed and recorded after the fact at https://www.youtube.com/@ARatorioForTheMis-Remembered, for those who cannot attend in person.
