Who can be a WiSE Mentor?
We only accept undergraduate women students in STEM to serve as mentors. To provide the best resources to our mentees, we focus on recruiting third-year students and above for mentoring positions. However, because of the high demand for mentors, each year we rely on second-year students (typically former mentees) to step in as mentors.
How do I apply to be a mentor?
Registration begins in March; however, mentors are typically needed throughout the year due to a high number of mentees. Each year WiSE contacts all current mentors, former mentees, and participants of other WiSE programs to recruit mentors. We also request nominations from faculty and advisors across campus. There is no cost associated with being a mentor, as you are considered volunteers - and we really appreciate it! To apply to be a mentor, just complete our online application using the link below. If you have never been a mentor, complete the New Mentor Application. If you have previously been a WiSE mentor, then complete the returning mentor application.
What happens after I apply?
We will e-mail you about a week after you complete your application to let you know we received it and give you information on next steps. In late July we will match mentors and mentees and then in early August you will be sent your mentee's information to begin communications. There is a short, required training for all mentors during the week before classes or the first week of class, followed by the required welcome party for all participants during the second week of class.
