In an effort to raise awareness of interdisciplinary efforts occurring across the University of Iowa campus, THE PUBLIC DIGITAL ARTS SHOWCASE is pleased to release its first volume featuring a wide array of artists. Spanning a variety of departments, this showcase features faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, this showcase is meant to raise awareness and importance of arts collaboration.
As noted from its URL domain, this showcase has evolved from its inception last year, formerly known as FIRST KISS. The 2015 public arts performance ran in collaboration with Iowa City's Mission Creek Festival featuring University artists collaborating for the first time. The core goal of First Kiss was to expand upon previous programs by involving a broader range of participants from a broader range of disciplines and presenting it in a more public space such as the food court of the Old Captial Mall.
The 2016 showcase curator, Ari Craven, has worked as a research fellow under Jon Winet, director of the Public Digital Arts Cluster (PDA), to further support various interdisciplinary projects occurring on campus. Combined of various faculty on campus, at the core of the PDA is a commitment to innovative and interdisciplinary collaboration and to the public expression of the University's research. As part of his senior capstone Honors project, Craven, strived to create an online platform to showcase existing work of Iowa faculty, staff, graduate, and undergraduate students.
