Trans@Iowa

Trans@Iowa exists as a resource for trans students, communities, and their allies. At the University of Iowa, we embrace our responsibility to create a welcoming environment for all members of our community. This commitment includes all students, staff, and faculty as they pursue their goals.

An Open Letter to Transgender Students

This is a particularly challenging moment for transgender individuals, both in Iowa, as well as around the country.

While those of us on the Trans Inclusivity Coalition know that despite setbacks (and thanks to consistent hard work) things do eventually get better, for the most vulnerable members of our community — trans youth and students — we’ve heard directly that ongoing transphobic attacks have become too much to bear.

As a show of support and a promise to show up when it counts, we’ve written a powerful open letter to transgender students at the University of Iowa, with the backing of thirty offices and organizations across campus (and counting).

We hope you'll read it and join us.
