The University of Iowa Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (UI LSAMP) Program provides opportunities for a mentored research experience, professional development, and financial support for underrepresented students transferring to the University of Iowa from a community college with an interest in a future career in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) .
UI LSAMP is part of the Iowa Illinois Nebraska STEM Partnership for Innovation in Research and Education (IINSPIRE) which is an alliance among 16 two-year and four-year colleges and universities working together to attract the states’ growing underrepresented minority (URM) population into STEM fields and to attract students from other regions to STEM education opportunities in Iowa, Illinois, and Nebraska.
As an LSAMP IINSPIRE Student Intern you are eligible to receive benefits that include:
- Mentoring with scientific colleagues (professors, graduate students, peers)
- Stipend of $1250 per semester (for about 8-12 hours of research per week) and $3000 in summer (for about 15-20 hours of research per week)
- Access to information about exciting LSAMP and STEM conferences, events, and workshops
- Opportunities to participate in professional development seminars and student networking activities through the Iowa Biosciences Academy.
