Staff Council's service recognition program acknowledges all professional & scientific and merit staff who have reached 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, or 50 years of continuous service. Longevity Award winners receive a certificate and letter of appreciation from the Office of the President.

Established in 1993, the award was created to provide a statewide forum to recognize staff members in conjunction with colleagues from the other Board of Regents institutions. Their accomplishments have significantly benefited the University, brought honor or recognition to the University, and had a significant positive impact on the State of Iowa. Each winner receives a commemorative gift, and the University grants a $1,000 prize to each award recipient.

Board of Regents Staff Excellence Award criteria

This award recognizes current UI staff who have made outstanding accomplishments and contributions that significantly benefited or brought honor or recognition to the University.   Each winner receives a commemorative gift, and the University grants a $500 prize to each award recipient.

UI Outstanding Staff Award criteria

The David J. Skorton Staff Excellence Award in Service to the University of Iowa is given annually to individuals who have made significant contributions and have shown “exceptional imagination and dedication to improving the university community.” Service must include activities of high quality in staff governance, committee work, policy improvement, program creation, etc. and must be outside normal job responsibilities. Recipients will receive $1000 and a commemorative gift.

David J. Skorton Staff Excellence Award in Service to The University of Iowa criteria

Funded by a generous gift from the estate of Richard E. Gibson, this award is given annually to up to two individuals in the Merit classification. It recognizes an employee’s outstanding creativity and innovation in process improvement or exceptional achievement in providing customer service. These accomplishments must be outside the employee’s normal job responsibilities or must go above and beyond a position’s standard requirements. The award recipients will receive a $1,000 stipend and commemorative gift.

Richard E. Gibson Merit Staff Award criteria

The Staff Award for Distinguished Leadership in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion was established to shine a light on staff members who work toward achieving a welcoming, supportive and inclusive working environment. It is intended to celebrate those who embrace the value of diversity and recognize how it helps set the University of Iowa apart. The award is given annually to up to two recipients and each will receive a $500 gift and recognition on the Staff Council website.
