Adding departmental events not open to the public

Often departments have events of interest only to their faculty and staff. It’s possible to create events like this in Localist and pull them into a departmental calendar via the widget tool. Events created this way will NOT show up on the main UI Events Calendar.

Creating these events takes a bit of patience at first because it’s counter-intuitive, but once you get the hang of it, it’s really quite easy. Here’s how to do it.

Login to the admin interface

Login with your HawkID and click on the “admin” button at the top right corner of the screen.

Create your event

Put in date, time, and description as usual.

When you get to the location field, start typing the name of the campus building, but when that list of names and addresses comes up, DON’T CLICK on one of them—but remember your building address and type it into the address field that will appear.

Select the “venue only” box at the bottom of the page.

Use the widget tool

Go to the UI Events Calendar homepage and follow the instructions there for using the widget tool to pull events into your site.
