Lt Col John H. Briner

Lt Col John H. Briner is the Professor of Aerospace Studies and Commander, Air Force ROTC Detachment 255 at the University of Iowa. As such, he is responsible for recruiting, educating, and training students for entry into the US Air Force with commissions as second lieutenants.

Lt Col Briner’s diverse career began with his enlistment in 1995 as an Aerospace Ground Equipment journeyman at Dyess AFB, Texas.  Following his commissioning in 1999, he was trained as a Personnel officer and has served as a Section Commander, Military Training Flight Commander and staff officer. Lt Col Briner has also served career broadening tours as an Air Force ROTC Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies and group executive officer.

In 2008, Lt Col Briner was retrained as a munitions maintenance officer and was assigned to Malmstrom AFB, Montana where he was a two-time Operations Officer and Chief of Quality Assurance.  In 2011, he assumed command of the 7th Munitions Squadron, Dyess AFB, Texas, followed by his most recent previous assignment as Commander, 341st Maintenance Operations Squadron, Malmstrom AFB, Montana.
